Friday Reminders 12/8/17

Finally, a calm week! We previewed the Holiday Shop and made some wise choices for gifts. On Friday, we made cards on Friday for the INOVA Children's Hospital as a part of the "Cards of Kindness" program. Next week is going to be super busy with the Mercer Concert, Gingerbread Houses, Holidays Around the World, and the Holiday Sing-Along!

Reminders

• Regrouping Test will be on Wednesday, December 13th.
• Quarter 2 Interims will be available on ParentVUE on Wednesday, December 13th.
• Starting Monday, 12/11, students will be expected to complete:
• 25 minutes of RAZ Kids; and
• 25 minutes of Reflex each week.
• Scholastic orders will be due in class by Wednesday, December 13th. Online orders will be due by Thursday, December 28th.
• Come out to support the 5th graders' Pancake Breakfast fundraiser and take a look at the Holiday Shop! Breakfast goes from 8:30 - 10am and the Shop will be open from 9:30 - 11am.

Week Overview
* Reading - We discussed different reference materials/tools, including dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, almanac, encyclopedia, and internet. We used the dictionary to find words this week.
* Writing - We started our All About books which will tell the reader all about a topic that each student chose.
* Social Studies - We finished our Maps and Globes unit by talking about the Great Lakes and reviewing the continents and oceans.
* Science - We started our Magnets and Force unit on Thursday!
* Math - We reviewed our rounding skills as we estimated the sums and differences of problems.
