SEL/Morning Meeting

Reading - 

We read new stories this week.

Writing -  

We published our How-to/Procedural Text. We will practice our cursive and write about second grade memories next week.

Math - 

We have been learning about one-step and two-step word problems with addition and subtraction. We will continue this next week and start multiplication.

Science - 

Next week, we will do a short unit on fruits and vegetables and how they help our bodies.

Social Studies - 

We learned about why Europeans came to North America, why Washington D.C. is our capital city, and how the Louisiana Purchase changed the size of the United States.

We found different examples of cause and effect in a text.

Writing -  

We worked on a few quick writes and wrote about a second grade memory and our morning routine. Next week, we will write and publish our How-to/Procedural Text.

Math - 

We have been learning about one-step and two-step word problems with addition and subtraction. We will continue this next week and start multiplication.

Science - 

We learned about plants as a resource and specific plants that grow in Virginia.

Social Studies - 

Next week, we will learn about why Europeans came to North America, why Washington D.C. is our capital city, and how the Louisiana Purchase changed the size of the United States.

Handwriting -

Writing - We practiced finding and adding punctuation to dialogue. We will add dialogue into our imaginative stories and get them published next week!
Math - We finished learning about symmetry and congruent shapes. We started our fractions unit learning about equal parts (the kids made the observation that the parts must be congruent). We will continue our fractions unit next week.
Science - We finished our science unit on the force and motion next week (friction, gravity, magnetism). We started matter this week, learning about solids, liquids, and gases. We will continue this next week.

Math - We learned about analyzing data from picture graphs and bar graphs. We will be reviewing math skills in preparation for MAP after spring break.
Science - We learned about personal safety, harmful substances, and prescriptions vs nonprescription medicines.
Handwriting - We learned how to write i, t, p in cursive.

Reminders for Wednesday, March 18th

  • Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!
  • Homework packet due Friday, 3/27. 
    • It will be sent home Monday, 3/23.
  • No School on Thursday, 3/19 - teacher work day
  • No School on Friday, 3/20 - Eid al Fitr
  • Graphing quiz on Friday, 3/27 (math)
    • Your child should be able to read and understand the data presented on a picture graph and a bar graph. They should recongize the parts of a graph (straight lines, labels on the side and bottom, title, numbers).
  • Spring Break 3/30 - 4/3
    • Last day before break is Friday, 3/27.
    • Return to school on Monday, 4/6.
  • No school on Friday, 4/10 - teacher work day

  • Weekly Reminder
    • Return library books by Wednesday each week!
      • If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
    • Wear sneakers on Monday and Friday for P.E.
      • If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
    • Ice Cream will be available at lunch next week!
      • Ice cream is $2.
      • We would prefer that students plan to purchase ice cream on Fridays. Per LCPS, they are allowed to buy it any day of the week. We encourage them to buy ice cream only on Fridays so that they are less likely to make it a competition.
    • House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
      • Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit. 
    • Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
      • Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
      • Please make sure to stay at our table.
      • Our lunch is 12:10 - 12:40pm.

Reading - We practiced our reading skills.
Writing - We reviewed the verb be (was, were, are, am, is). We will start brainstorming for our imaginative stories next week.

Math - We practiced answering word problems and counting coins to amounts less than $2.
Social Studies - We learned about North America, its main 3 countries, and its bordering oceans. We will focus on landforms - rivers, mountains, lakes - of the United States next week.
Handwriting - We practiced writing cursive lowercase c, o, a, g, d.
