Food
Recovery Program
Hello
Parents-
We wanted to
tell you about a new program we are starting at Pinebrook. As your children
finish lunch and prepare to leave the cafeteria, they will have the opportunity
to donate any unopened food they do not want to take back home. Rather than
tossing that bag of chips or untouched apple in the trash, they can place it in
our donation bins.
We are
starting with non-perishable items – crackers, wrapped cookies, cereal, chips,
bars, apples, bananas, etc can all be donated to help other kids. We in turn
donate these items each Wednesday to the Dulles South Food Pantry to help
families right here in our area.
Together we
can reduce waste and help others at the same time. Please remind your children
that they can and should save items they want to keep for another day. We
simply want to encourage the children to be mindful of waste and not throw
perfectly good food in the trash.
We are in
need of two large storage containers (70 Qt or larger) to store the food.
Please let us know if you have one to donate. We are also looking for a few
parent volunteers who would be able to pick up the food on Tuesday afternoon or
Wednesday morning to deliver to Dulles South Food Pantry on Wednesday mornings
from 10am-12pm. Please contact Christine Varanelli (christine.varanelli@lcps.org) if you can help.
Thank you
for helping us make a difference!
