Friday Reminders 12/6/19

We had a great week! The kiddos are working hard and learning all sorts of new things. We were visited by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to review and learn new facts about the Powhatan tribe. We also had a mystery reader! Check Dojo for some photos and videos.

We will be taking both of our MAP assessments next week. On Monday, we will be testing on math concepts and on Friday, we will be testing on reading concepts. Please make sure your child gets enough sleep and a good breakfast on those mornings (and all mornings!). Please remind your child (as I will in class) to take their time, try their best, and don't stress about the test! It is only really used by me to determine how to best support them in class.

Week Overview
* Reading - We started learning about non-fiction text features -- headings, table of contents. We will continue this next week.
* Writing - We started editing and publishing our own nonfiction texts!

* Social Studies - We started learning about maps and globes! We learned the difference between the two as well as all of the continents and oceans. Next week, we will learn about the compass rose and review the hemispheres, equator, and prime meridian. We did take a Continents and Oceans quiz on Friday where the kids had to label the continents and oceans; they did well on this!

* Math - We continued to practice subtraction with regrouping.
