What an awesome first week of hybrid learning! The kiddos did a great job getting into routine and making sure to come to morning meeting at 8:00am. There was a lot of new routines for them to learn, but also many familiar things. They did a wonderful job rolling with the changes and following directions. Both groups were great listeners and patient as I guided them through all the new things we had to practice and learn about.

Kudos to grown-ups for supporting our kids through this transition! You guys are so important to helping them to be prepared to come to school which helps me get them ready once they get to school. I was very impressed by how prepared the kids were and how proficient they were at using their Chromebook and navigating to different programs. I know that a lot of work went into that at home and I greatly appreciate it!

Big thank you for signing up for conferences so quickly! It's going to be a busy day for me, but it will be nice to get everyone done in one day. Remember that conferences are VIRTUAL and on Google Meet; please be sure to sign onto the Google Meet on time as the slots are back-to-back. You can check the schedule here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0d44aca62ca0f94-fall4.

There are a couple of things that I noticed from this first week:
  • Please make sure that your child has a well-fitting mask. A few of our kids have masks that are sliding off their noses. Also, please remind your child that they should have their mask over their mouth AND nose at all times unless they are eating or told otherwise by an adult.
  • Please be sure that your child knows how to tie their shoelaces. By second grade, teachers are generally not helping students tie their shoes and with COVID, it's another way of being exposed.

Week Overview
*Morning Meeting - We were figuring out how Morning Meet looks during Hybrid so we just shared our numbers this week.
*Reading - We identified the most important part/event in different stories this week during read aloud. We practiced reading independently for longer periods of time at school.
*Writing - We wrote about our summer vacations and practiced checking for capital letters in our writing. We will start writing about small moments in our lives starting next week.
*Math - We continued to focus on place value.
*Health/Science - We learned about different habitats this week! We will learning about how animals have adapted to their habitats to survive.

I'll see grown-ups on Monday and the kids on Wednesday morning!
Have a relaxing and refreshing four-day weekend,
