 catching snowflakes on your tongue

Happy third night of Las Posadas and last night of Hanukkah!

Wow, what a week with two snow days already! I hope you and your family found time to enjoy the snow and get outside.

The kids transitioned back to online learning pretty well. They are even suggesting ways to bring our normal way of learning into our online classroom (ex. writing in our composition books during reading)! I know they may miss being in the classroom, but the kids are doing well online as well.

The biggest thing I noticed is that some students are choosing to do work on Seesaw while we are meeting on Google Meet. If they are doing this, they are missing out on the lessons we are doing as a class; this was discussed with the kids on Tuesday and Friday this week. If this applies to your student, they did receive a red point and a note that explains why on ClassDojo. Other than that, the kids are doing great.

Reminders for Friday, December 18th

  • Please make sure your child has completed the following assignments on Seesaw. All these assignments are GRADED and due by 12/22.
    • Unit 3 Quiz #1 (math)
    • Unit 3 Quiz #2 (math)
    • Health Quiz
    • Nonfiction Text Features Quiz
    • Map Test (social studies)
    • Abbreviations (writing)\
  • Quarter 2 Interims were sent to your emails Wednesday evening. I believe they are also viewable on ParentVUE. The Interim report is your child's grades for the first half of the quarter; it's basically a check-in so that you know how your child is doing so far in the quarter.
    • The trend I noticed while looking over Interims and writing comments is that several students need to be taking their time to read directions, check over their work, and read comments before submitting their work.
    • Please encourage, or continue to encourage, your child to complete ALL Must-Do work on both Seesaw and online programs (Dreambox, RAZ Kids, Lalilo, and Epic).
      • Must-Do Seesaw activities offer more practice of a review skill and sometimes an introduction to a skill that we haven't covered in class yet.
      • Again, since we are not 100% in the classroom, these programs are intended for kids to practice their skills and build their knowledge/understanding in the time where they are not learning with their teacher.
