Friday Reminders 1/15/2021

Friday, January 15, 2021

It is a long weekend! We DO NOT have school on 1/18, 1/19, and 1/20. The kids and I will only be meeting on 1/21 and 1/22.

Thank you to everyone for your assistance with testing this week! It was definitely less intense than the fall, but it went smoothly with your help. That being said, please keep in mind that all second grade students WILL be taking the MAP tests (1 for reading and 1 for math) the first week of February. More information will come out soon, but it will run similarly to how we did it in the fall.

Report cards will also be coming out soon! While the kids will still have until Tuesday, 1/19 to complete all their work for this week, it would be helpful if all GRADED assignments from 1/11 - 1/15 were completed by Sunday, 1/17 so that I can more easily get report cards completed. Thank you!

With the new quarter, we do have a few class changes as students move between hybrid and distance classes. Two of our classmates are leaving our class and one student is transferring in from a distance class starting Thursday, 1/21. There are posts on Seesaw for the kids to say goodbye and hello! If your kiddo would like to stay in contact with their classmates who are leaving, please refer to the class directory. If you need a new copy, please email me! (I will be sending an updated class directory soon.)

Week Overview
*Morning Meeting - We discussed ways to help others. The kiddos had a mission to help three people without being asked to do so.
*Reading - We focused on authors' purposes for writing (persuade, inform, entertain). We also learned about paying attention to what we are learning when we read nonfiction texts.
*Writing - We continued to work on and published our All About books.
*Math - We learned how to estimate sums and started learning about regrouping subtraction.
*Science - We finished up our force and magnets unit. Next week, we will start learning about weather.

I'll see all the kiddos Thursday morning!
Have a fantastic long weekend,
