Friday Reminders 10/1/21

Friday, October 1, 2021

Happy October! We have had a fantastic first month of school. The kids are making friends and growing their skills - social and academic. We are mostly done with testing so we will be able to start our reading groups and Puma Power groups soon! The kids have been champs about doing their assessments and being patient when it's their turn.

Conferences are coming up this month! Thank you all for signing up so quickly. I'll send out reminders as we get closer. If you need to change your date/time or would like to switch from/to in-person/virtual, please let me know! You can still view the sign up HERE.

My main goal will be discussing your child's current behaviors in the classroom and where they are academically. So I would again like to offer you a chance to share any concerns you may have with me via this Google form. By doing so prior to your conference, it allows me to gather the proper resources or information prior to the meeting.

Big thank you to all the grown-ups at home! I appreciate your patience and support as we navigate our first full year of school in two years. It's been an adjustment for everyone, but the kids are doing well and so are you!

  • **If you have not already, please consider putting extra masks in your kiddo's backpack. Accidents happen and it's always best when the kids have masks that they are already comfortable wearing.

Week Overview
Morning Meeting/SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) - We learned three things that we learn when we make mistakes - how to make changes, how to fix our mistakes, and how to ask for help.
Reading -  We practiced retelling a story from beginning, middle, and end. We also learned/reviewed some strategies for reading unfamiliar words - sound and say, chunk the word, switch the vowel, and use what I know. Next week, we will work on identifying the problem and solution in a story.
Writing -  We learned how to use an organizer to help our writing. We discussed what to do when we think we are "done" - review for punctuation, capitalization, topic/concluding sentences, and neatness, add more details, and check spelling.
Math - We started learning about place value with three-digit numbers. We will review and build on this throughout the school year.
Social Studies - We learned about how communities change over time - communication, transportation, population. We will learn about the different types of communities next week - rural, suburban, and urban.

Have a fantastic weekend,
