Friday Reminders 12/17/21

Friday, December 17, 2021

We've made it to winter break! I hope everyone enjoys the time off and you all find time to relax and hang out with your families. Remember that winter break is from December 20th to January 2nd. Classes resume on Monday, January 3rd.

Thank you for the class gift! It will definitely be useful. 😊

Today, the kids started the day with extra recess (no specials due to the sing along) and a bunch of reading time! We cleaned out our work bins for a fresh start in the new year, had snack early, and headed off to the Holiday Sing Along. When we got back, we cleaned up the classroom and started a movie (Wall-E, rated G) before going out for our usual recess and coming back for lunch. We ended our day with finishing Wall-E and a having a short Fun Friday. Please be sure to check your kiddo's backpack for papers from their mailbox.

Just a quick FYI, I turn off my email notifications during breaks. I might check it occasionally, but it it is unlikely that you will be able to get ahold of me until January 4th. If you have an school-related emergency, I would recommend contacting the PNB Front Office or the PNB admin, Mr. Thiessen, paul.thiessen@lcps.org, Mrs. Boyd, leigh.boyd@lcps.org, or Ms. Donaldson, turner.donaldson@lcps.org

Reminders for Friday, December 17th

  • Please remember to bring your Chromebook and charger to school each day!
  • 30 minutes of RAZ kids due by Friday, 1/7
  • Quarter 2 Interims will post by Monday, 12/20.
    • You will receive a copy in your email and should be able to view it in ParentVUE as well. This is just a snapshot of how Quarter 2 is going for your child; it is not a final report card. If you have any questions, please feel free to email me!
  • Winter Break, Monday, 12/20 to Sunday, 1/2
    • School resumes Monday, January 3rd.
Notes
  • The kids are welcome to use their online programs throughout winter break (Dreambox, RAZ kids, Lalilo, and Epic).
  • **If you have not already, please consider putting extra masks in your kiddo's backpack. Accidents happen and it's always best when the kids have masks that they are already comfortable wearing.
    • Please also be sure that your kiddo's masks fit their faces well!
Week Overview
Morning Meeting/SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) - We continued learning about powerful emotions and how we can all have different opinions or feelings about the same topic.
Reading -  We shared our research from reading multiple nonfiction books. We learned about more nonfiction text features (labels, captions, bold print, italic print).
Writing -  We answered different prompts to practice our creative writing.
Math - We learned about and practiced 2-digit subtraction.
Social Studies - We learned about maps vs globes, hemispheres, equator vs prime meridian, and continents vs. oceans. We will review continents and oceans and learn about the different landforms (rivers, mountains, lakes) next week.

I hope you have a magnificent winter break and I'll see the kiddos on Monday, January 3rd! If you're celebrating, I also hope you have a great Las Posadas, a Merry Christmas, a Happy Kwanzaa, and/or a Happy New Year (you can click the bitmojis below for a video about the holiday!).
Happy Holidays!
