Friday Reminders 2/25/22

Friday, February 25, 2022

What a whirlwind of weather this week! Hopefully, it will choose a consistent temperature soon. I know the kiddos are a little itchy to move around as we've been stuck inside more often. The kids and I reviewed the expectations for indoor recess/Fun Friday today which helped make it much calmer! We discussed how each person has an "emotional bubble" around them and we need to show empathy and kindness by not poking anyone's emotional bubble; this stemmed from an observation that they are "pushing each other buttons" and put into kid-friendly words. 👍 You can view our chart on the Class Story on ClassDojo.

Reminders for Friday, February 25th

Notes
  • **If you feel strongly about your child continuing to wear their mask throughout the day, please do let me know so that I can reinforce your decision with your student. Thank you!
    • Just to clarify - I cannot make your student wear their mask, but I can remind them and let you know if they are repeatedly choosing not to wear it.
  • Scholastic Book Fair is coming back to Pinebrook! It will be open from March 11 - 18. We will do a preview in school. You can check out the schedule here.
PTA Notes
  • PTA Bingo Night is tonight, February 25th at 6pm!
Week Overview
Morning Meeting/SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) - We practiced showing empathy in different situations.
Handwriting - We practiced our cursive this week, focusing on letters we have already learned.
Reading -  We practiced summarizing stories using 5 important details (first, then, next, after that, finally) rather than just three details (beginning, middle, end). We will continue this next week.
Writing -  We started to organize our fractured fairy tale writing. We will take a fairy tale we know and change parts of it to make a slightly different story with a similar plot and author's message.
Math - We learned and practiced how to tell time to the nearest 5 minutes. Next week, we will continue this learning and also learn the difference between A.M. and P.M. times.
Social Studies - We started our famous Americans unit with Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington Carver. Next week, we will learn about Helen Keller, Thurgood Marshall, and Rosa Parks.

Have a fantastic weekend,
