Reminders for Friday, October 14th
Week Overview
- Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!
- Picture Day on Tuesday, 10/17
- We are scheduled to go get our photos taken immediately after lunch at 12:50pm.
- It is also jersey day (spirit week). I told the kids to talk with you about what you would like them to do. I suggested:
- wear jersey all day
- wear jersey until lunch and change shirt before lunch
- wear photo clothes all day and skip jersey day
- 30 minutes TOTAL of RAZ Kids due by Friday, 10/21
- Log in through LCPS Go or go to kidsa-z.com
- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Assessment on Thursday, 10/20 (math)
- Most Important Part Assessment on Friday, 10/21 (reading)
- Students will identify the most important event in a fiction story. The goal is to be able decide out of all of the events in a story (retelling) which one is the most important to the story; the student should be able to explain WHY it is important to the story.
- Example.) In Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Goldilocks is trying to find the "just right" item. It is important to the story because if she wasn't trying to find the "just right" item, she would not have caused any damage to the Bears' house.
- No School on Monday, 10/24 -- Diwali
- Habitats Assessment on Thursday, 10/28 (science)
- Study guide will come home on Monday.
- No School on Monday, 10/31 -- teacher work day
- No School on Tuesday, 11/1 -- teacher work day

- Parent & Teacher Conferences begin this month!
- Please check that you have signed up for a conference appointment. If you have signed up, you should have recieved a Google calendar invite from me. I will also be sending home paper reminders soon.
- Weekly Reminders
- Wear sneakers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for P.E.
- If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
- Return library books by Wednesday!
- If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
- Ice Cream at lunch on Thursday!
- Ice cream is $1.

- School store will be open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:40 - 8:00mm.
- The kids should come to the classroom first so I know they are here and THEN go to the school store.

SEL/Morning Meeting - We learned about positive self talk. We will continue this next week as well.
Reading - We continued practicing using our reader response journals to write about our reading.
Writing - We practiced adding opening/topic sentences and wrote two quick writes. Next week, we will start a new writing unit (we have been in a review unit).

Read Aloud - We asked questions about our fiction stories. Next week, we will learn how to identify the most important part of a fiction story.
Math - We continued practicing number sense this week. We started practicing comparing numbers which we will continue next week.
Social Studies/Science - We wrapped up our communities unit this week. We started our new science unit of Habitats by discussing living and nonliving things. Next week, we will start talking about specific habitats.
