Reminders for Friday, February 24th

  • Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!
  • 30 minutes TOTAL of RAZ Kids due by Friday, 3/3
  • Time quiz on Tuesday, 2/28 (math)
    • moved to give more time to practice
  • Franklin, Lincoln, Carver Quiz on Thursday, 3/2 (social studies)
  • Calendar quiz on Friday, 3/3 (math)
  • Compare/Contrast quiz on Friday, 3/3 (reading)
    • The student will compare an original fairytale with a fractured fairytale and point out the things that are the same and different between them.
    • This is a 2-week unit.
  • Keller, Marshall, Parks Quiz on Thursday, 3/9 (social studies)
  • Inches Quiz on Friday, 3/10 (math)
    • The student will measure to the nearest inch using a ruler.
  • No School on Monday, 3/13 -- Teacher Work Day
  • Robinson, Chavez, King Quiz on Friday, 3/17 (social studies)
Notes
  • Weekly Reminders
    • Wear sneakers on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for P.E.
      • If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
    • Return library books by Wednesday!
      • If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
    • Ice Cream at lunch on Thursday!
      • Ice cream is $1.
    • House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
      • Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit. 
    • Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
      • Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
      • You can walk your kiddo back to the classroom after lunch (when Ms. Stiffler comes to pick them up) if you would like.
      • Our lunch is 12:20 - 12:50pm.
  • PTA Meeting on Monday, 3/6/2023 at 7pm in the Pinebrook Elementary Library
  • School store will be open on Fridays from 7:40 - 8:00mm.
Week Overview
Reading - We read nonfiction books about plants to help build our background knowledge of plant life cycles. Next week, we will read narrative fiction about ocean habitats.
Writing -  We started our fiction stories by creating our characters (who is in the story?) and the setting (where are the characters?). We also started working on the problem and solution. We will continue this next week.
Read Aloud - We started reading fractured fairy tales and notice how they compare/contrast with the original stories. We will continue this next week.
Math - We learned and practiced telling time to the nearest 5 minutes. We will continue this next week and a do a short unit on reading/using a calendar. 
Science We learned about disaster weather. Next week, we will start our Famous Americans unit by learning about Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington Carver.
Handwriting - We are still practicing our handwriting during morning work.
