We hope this message finds you safe and well!
LCPS would like you to please access the Continuity of Education resources for work to do from now until March 30th.
Mr. Thiessen and our team are encouraging you to join the Google Classroom for the second grade. The code needed is g6swdw5. Going forward, this will be the main communication source for the whole second grade; your teacher will still continue to update as needed via their own communication. After March 30th, the 2nd grade teachers will be posting review lessons and activities for each subject area. Until that time, we would like you to take this time to explore Google Classroom and get familiar with all the parts. As per LCPS, teachers are not to be leading Google Meets with their classes. We are saddened to learn of this decision, but must follow the directions given to us. We were given permission to post recorded videos/messages so you may be receiving one of those from your teacher!
As a team, we have decided to use Lalilo as an alternative to both Word Study and Phonics instruction. Lalilo is an online program that places your child based on their current abilities while taking the placement test and while working through the program. Your child will work at their level and abilities in the areas of phonics, sight words, word families, and comprehension. The program has a narrator who will guide them through the directions of each activity. For some students, this is a familiar program and for some it will be totally brand-new so take your time getting used to it. If it is new to your class, your teacher will email with more information.
