Hello, families!
We hope this message finds you and your family healthy and safe.
The intention of this letter is to outline the expectations for second graders, as given to us from LCPS and Mr. Thiessen. All resources have been compiled by the PNB second grade team and are within the guidelines given to us.
PNB has put together a suggested weekly schedule that includes daily announcements, specials, and teacher instructional materials. If you would like additional activities, you can go to the Continuity of Education website. You can view these resources on the Puma Paw.
Second graders are expected to complete up to 60 minutes of work each school day, Monday through Friday. Students can be assigned additional reading time, so we are suggesting at least 20 minutes of extra reading time each day. To view our suggested schedule, please CLICK HERE.
The goal of these suggested schedules is to help build a consistent routine for your student. As we all know, second graders thrive on routines.
Each week, on Monday morning, we will post a document called a “hyperdoc” to the Google classroom. It is where you and your student will find all of their assignments for the week. The hyperdoc has blocks dedicated to the core subjects - math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and phonics. Each block has a link to a choice board of three activities for your child to choose from. There will be a new hyperdoc with new links each week; they will change to correspond with the topic we are focusing on for the week. Each subject block is intended to last about 60 minutes; if your student finishes early, they can complete another assignment or read for the remaining time.
The activities in the hyperdoc are intended to last all week, not to be completed in one sitting. The choice boards do include three activities to choose from. We do not expect ALL the activities in each choice board to be completed. We are only expecting one activity from each board. If your student wishes to complete more than one activity, that is perfectly okay, too!
For this week (3/30 - 4/3), we are not expecting any work to be turned in for feedback. Please use this week to get used to the format of the Google classroom, the hyperdoc, and the activities. If you have any questions or concerns, please email your teacher. Do not post concerns in the Google classroom; it is intended for students to use to access materials.
Happy learning!
Love,
Grade 2 Team
