Friday Reminders 11/20/2020

Friday, November 20, 2020

Just a heads up, I did send home some materials with Maroon today and will be sending the same materials home with Navy on Tuesday. I DO NOT know anything about schools closing or classes going back to virtual/online/distance only; I really do only know the same information that parents do. However, it was suggested to PNB teachers by our admin to send home materials with students prior to Thanksgiving break. There is a possibility that we could be returning to distance learning after break next week. Therefore, I have sent materials home with Maroon (and will be with Navy) to be prepared and prevent mass material pick-up in the case of closing. Again, I have NOT heard anything about schools closing and that information would come from Mr. Thiessen or LCPS. Thank you!
  • If we are still open after break, then these items will need to return to school with your child on their next in-person day to stay at school:
    • nametag (with logins on the back)
      • Some kids chose to take it, some kids chose to leave it at school.
    • composition journal (has shared reading poem and reading work in it)
    • dry erase board
    • pencil box
    • Go Math book
    • Go Math Success (SOL) book
    • Science journal

There was a message sent on Remind about this, but please make sure your child has a pair of scissors to use at school. It should live in their pencil box. They need scissors for some activities in the classroom and during art. We do have scissors for the kiddos to borrow, but with all the cleaning practices, it makes it a little harder to lend out materials.

Regarding breakfast in the classroom, please remind your child that they should be finished eating by the time we are logging off of Google Meet. Some kiddos have been dragging out breakfast until 9:30am which is almost 2 hours after they have arrived in the classroom. Even with their morning tasks (unpacking, agenda, etc.) and our morning meet, the kiddos still have plenty of time to eat their breakfast between the Google Meet starting and ending.

Week Overview
*Morning Meeting - We learned about respect and ways to be respectful versus disrespectful. We will discuss gratitude next week.
*Reading - We focused on Author's Message (what are you supposed to learn from this story?) during read aloud. We learned strategies for working through tricky words in our reading.
*Writing - We worked on adding details to our writing.
*Math - We started practicing our addition facts.
*Social Studies - We learned about the Lakota tribe and reviewed all three tribes (Powhatan, Pueblo, Lakota).
