(still saying goodbye to Halloween over here)

This week was a short, but good week! We are definitely getting into the swing of routine of in-person and Google Meets. The kids generally do a great job of staying in their space and following directions.

A couple of behaviors are surfacing now that the kiddos are comfortable, but nothing too bad. Please remind your child that they should be wearing their mask at all times, unless it is snack time, recess, or lunch time; it NEEDS to cover their nose. They should ONLY use a pencil to do their work, unless told otherwise; if they need a pencil, they can ask me.

A big thing I noticed is that kids are not consistently completing their math homework. They receive paper math homework at school and take it home to complete. It is ALWAYS written in their agenda and should be listed on the playlist for their next online day. The homework should return to school COMPLETED the next day they are in-person. The kids are welcome to complete their math homework when they get home as well, but not expected.

Some changes starting this/next week:

  • Kids will be earning Dojo points for completing their Dreambox, RAZ kids, and Lalilo time during the week. I will be checking it on Monday mornings so they have until Monday to complete their time and earn points.
    • If your child is unable to complete online time (internet issues, computer issues, etc.), please do let me know!
    • I'm still working out how they can redeem their points for rewards.
  • Kids should be keeping their yellow QuickWord (writing reference tool) in their Silver folder, in the pocket on the back cover. It will go back and forth from school to home.
  • All papers from the purple reference folder have been sent home to stay at home.
    • Please remember that there is a copy of all logins on the inside back cover of their agenda.
    • I have a copy of all their logins on the back of their nametags at school so they always have access to their accounts.
  • The purple reference folder will be staying at school to become their Catch-Up folder and home to all unfinished work at school.
    • The previous purpose of the reference folder will be transferred to the Silver folder.
  • The Silver folder (with the puma on the cover) is intended for bringing papers to and from school. This includes homework, school news, and other items.
  • I will send home papers from school on Thursdays (Navy) and Friday (Maroon). It will be a stapled set of papers on the Keep At Home side of your child's silver folder.
  • Please make sure that your child has the following items EACH day they come to school:
    • Agenda
      • Please check for what the kids need to do for homework.
    • Silver folder (with QuickWord book)
    • Purple writing journal
      • They will start some things at school and finish on Seesaw and vice versa so it will travel back and forth.
    • Chromebook and charger
    • Pencil box (as needed)
      • If they have supplies at home, they can leave it at school. If they need it at home, they can take it home. Please discuss with your child.
    • Headphones (as needed)
      • Same as the pencil box. Please discuss with your child.

Just a note from Ms. Causey (P.E.), Mr. Foote (music), and Mrs. Johnson (art), the kids do have access to the asynchronous lessons and work on Schoology. They are welcome to do extra P.E., music, or art at home, especially on their home days where they don't have specials.
