NATIVE AMERICAN PROJECT

Due Date: November 30th, 2021

Dear Families,

Second grade students will begin learning about Native Americans during the month of November. Please have students select a tribe that they would like to focus on or learn more about.  We will be learning about the Powhatan, Pueblo, and Lakota tribes in school. Students may choose any tribe, including one of the above tribes. This project is to be completed AT HOME via Seesaw.

The assignment includes three parts:

1.    Informational Booklet on a specific Native American tribe

a.     This will be completed on Seesaw, which has been used in class.

2.    Three-dimensional (3-D) project

a.     The project should be an item that was important to the tribe.

b.    Examples: food, clothing, jewelry, homes, games, or hunting tools.

c.     Any materials may be used to create the project! We DO NOT expect anyone to spend money to create these projects.

3.    Presentation on Seesaw

a.     The student will need to share:

                                        i.     The name of their tribe and where the tribe lives

                                       ii.     What they made

iii.     Why the item is important to the tribe

iv.     One interesting fact about the tribe

Students will be given two weeks to complete this assignment.  This is a great opportunity to discuss with your child the importance of time management and creating deadlines. It is expected that parents encourage their child throughout the completion of the project; however, all work should reflect the child’s original ideas.
