Reminders for Friday, September 29th
  • Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!
  • No School on Monday, 9/25 -- Yom Kippur
  • 3-digit Place Value quiz on Tuesday, 10/3 (math)
  • Past and Present Test on Friday, 10/6 (social studies)
  • Homework packet due on Friday, 10/6
    • It will be sent home on Monday, 10/2
  • No School on Monday, 10/9 -- Indigenous Peoples Day
  • Number Sense Quiz on Tuesday, 10/10 (math)
    • The student will show that they can count forward and backwards by 10s and 100s.
  • Growth Mindset Quiz on Wednesday, 10/11 (reading)
    • The student will use their background knowledge to answer questions and identify the conflict and resolution of a given story.
      • We will grow their knowledge during reading and write ideas on our digital mind map.
    • It is not a quiz on growth mindset. It is a quiz of reading skills.

Notes
  • PEP (Parents as Educational Partners)
    • There are monthly events for grown-ups/caregivers of English Language (EL students). They are hosted by Mrs. Gustilo and Mrs. Chatila, two of our EL teachers at PNB. All meetings are held at Pinebrook.
  • Weekly Reminder
    • Return library books by Mondays on B Weeks!
      • If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
    • Wear sneakers on Thursday and Friday for P.E.
      • If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
    • Ice Cream is available at lunch on Wednesdays for $1.
      • LCPS allows students to purchase ice cream any day of the week.
      • As a team, second grade is encouarged to get ice cream on Wednesday to help prevent any chaos (like buying 4 ice creams).
    • House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
      • Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit. 
    • Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
      • Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
      • Our lunch is 12:45 - 1:15pm.
Week Overview
SEL/Morning Meeting - Family CommunicationHome Link for Lesson. We started talking about growth mindset.
Reading - We practiced sequencing events and finding the conflict and resolution in a story. Next week, we will use this skill to learn more about growth mindset.
Writing - We learned about synonyms. We will review this and learn about antonyms next week.
Math - We practiced place value in the 100s. We will continue this next week and practice our number sense.
Social Studies - We started our past and present unit by talking and learning about how transportation and communities have changed over time. We will learn about how inventions and communication have changed.
Handwriting  -  Due to testing, we did not get to handwriting this week.
