- Franklin, Lincoln, & Carver test on Monday, 2/12 (social studies)
- This is a really quick unit with one day on each famous American. Each test will be on 3 Americans at a time.
- Winter Class Party on Wednesday, February 14th
- Please be sure to send your child's permission slip back as soon as possible!
- CogAT on February 13, 14, and 15
- This is a standardized computer test that all second graders in Loudoun County take. There are three parts and we take them back-to-back.
- Please make sure your child's Chromebook is charged and they get a good night's sleep & breakfast!

- PEP (Parents as Educational Partners)
- There are monthly events for grown-ups/caregivers of English Language (EL students). They are hosted by Mrs. Gustilo and Mrs. Chatila, two of our EL teachers at PNB. All meetings are held at Pinebrook.
- Weekly Reminder
- Return library books by Mondays on B Weeks!
- If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
- Wear sneakers on Thursday and Friday for P.E.
- If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
- Ice Cream is available at lunch on Wednesdays for $1.
- LCPS allows students to purchase ice cream any day of the week.
- As a team, second grade is encouarged to get ice cream on Wednesday to help prevent any chaos (like buying 4 ice creams).
- House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
- Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit.
- Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
- Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
- Our lunch is 12:45 - 1:15pm.

- School Store is open on Fridays!
- Everything is $2.
- My expectations are that the kids check in and drop off their backpacks FIRST and that all of their school store items stay in their backpacks.
SEL/Morning Meeting - Family Communication, Home Link
Math - We learned and will continue to practice counting amounts of money up to $2.00, using coins and dollar bills. We will learn about the parts of a clock next week. Due to CogAT testing, we will not start learning about telling time until the following week.
Phonics - We learned about the ending patterns long VCC, with V=vowel and C=consonant. New heart word was move.
Reading - We started learning about the landform of canyons! We will use this learning to practice using nonfiction texts to find answers to questions.
Writing - We wrote our opinions on different topics. We will continue this next week.
Social Studies - We learned about Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington Carver. Next week, we will learn about Rosa Parks, Thurgood Marshall, and Helen Keller.
