- The student will be able to identify specific dates on a calendar and write the date using numbers. They will also be able to tell past and future days of the week (ex. if today is Monday, then yesterday was....).
- Marine/Saltwater Biome reading quiz on Wednesday, 3/6 (reading)
- The student will use their background knowledge to help determine the theme of a fictional text. Here is a mind map for themes.

- There are monthly events for grown-ups/caregivers of English Language (EL students). They are hosted by Mrs. Gustilo and Mrs. Chatila, two of our EL teachers at PNB. All meetings are held at Pinebrook.

- Return library books by Mondays on B Weeks!
- If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
- Wear sneakers on Thursday and Friday for P.E.
- If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
- Ice Cream is available at lunch on Wednesdays for $1.
- LCPS allows students to purchase ice cream any day of the week.
- As a team, second grade is encouarged to get ice cream on Wednesday to help prevent any chaos (like buying 4 ice creams).
- House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
- Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit.
- Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
- Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.

- My expectations are that the kids check in and drop off their backpacks FIRST and that all of their school store items stay in their backpacks.
SEL/Morning Meeting - Family Communication (Unit 3)
Math - We continued practicing time and learned about A.M. versus P.M. We also started reviewing our calendar skills. We will continue this next week and then start our measurement unit with measuring to the nearest inch using a ruler.
Phonics - We learned about ar says /ar/ (part) and or & -ore say /or/ (torn, more). New heart words were pretty and nothing.
Reading - We started using our marine biomes background knowledge to find theme in a fiction book.
Writing - We reviewed nonfiction text features and picked a nonfiction topic to research in class. We will continue this next week. We also wrote a letter to our future selves to be opened on leap day 2028 (2/29/28).
Social Studies/Science - We learned about Cesar Chavez and Martin Luther King Jr. and wrapped up the famous Americans unit. We started our Plants science unit by discussing living vs. non-living. We will learn about the plant life cycle and how plants help us survive (resource) next week. Here is a mind map to help track our learning!
