- We will not be taking a test on scientific method. We will be completing multiple labs in class to see how well your child can follow the directions and make inferences about what they learn from each lab.
- Please discuss with your child the importance of listening to directions during science. Thank you!

- We will also have a picture day in the spring.
- Conferences - October 2024
- Please be sure to sign up for a fall conference! If you have already signed up, you should have recieved a Google calendar invite from me.

- This is the only required conference for the year. If we need to meet again, we will still be able to do so.
Notes
- PEP (Parents as Educational Partners)
- There are monthly events for grown-ups/caregivers of English Language (EL students). They are hosted by Mrs. Gustilo and Mrs. Chatila, two of our EL teachers at PNB. All meetings are held at Pinebrook.
- Weekly Reminder
- Return library books by Mondays!
- We will get new books EVERY Monday.
- If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
- Wear sneakers on Tuesday and Thursday for P.E.
- If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
- Ice Cream is available at lunch on Wednesdays for $1.
- LCPS allows students to purchase ice cream any day of the week.
- As a team, second grade is encouarged to get ice cream on Wednesday to help prevent any chaos (like buying 4 ice creams).
- House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
- Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit.
- Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
- Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
- Please make sure to stay at our table. You can walk your kiddo back to the classroom after lunch (when Ms. Stiffler comes to pick them up) if you would like.

PTA Events
- Spirit Night on 9/25 at Manhattan Pizza, South Riding location
- any order from 11am - 10pm will have some money go to Pinebrook PTA
- School Store will now be open on Fridays from 7:40 - 8:00am.
Phonics - We learned about more digraphs - 2 letters, 1 sound - with ch /ch (lunch), ck /ck/ (check), ng /ng/ (ring), ph /f/ (phone). Next week, we will review our digraphs and learn some trigraphs - scr-, str-, spr-, squ-, thr-, shr-, -nch.
Handwriting - We practiced the letters r, j, k, q, v, y.
Reading - We read Spoon and Be a Good Citizen. We talked about summarizing and supporting our opinions with evidence from the text.
Writing - We started talking about personal narratives and how they have characters, setting, and plot (beginning, middle, end).

Math - We learned about repeating patterns, growing/increasing patterns, and transfering patterns. Next week, we will learn and practice strategies to add numbers to get answers up to 20.
Social Studies - We learned about holidays. Here is our mind map summary of our learning! Next week, we will start our first science unit by practicing the scientific method through some different labs.
