Reminders for Friday, October 24th

  • Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!
  • Homework packet due Thursday, 10/30
    • Packet will go home on Monday, 10/27
  • October PEP session on 10/28
    • Topic: School Personnel, Parent-Teacher Conferences, and Report Cards
    • This is mainly for our EL families, all families are welcome. 
    • See below for more information!
  • Animal Life Cycles test on 10/30 (science)
    • Your child needs to know how animal life cycles repeat, that animals will change as they grow, and the similarities/differences between animal and plant life cycles.
    • Your child should know the stages in the life cycles of butterflies and white-tailed deer.
  • Fall Class Party on Thursday, 10/30
    • We will be having our fall class party from 12:45-2:00pm.
    • Please consider donating $30 to our class fund.
    • If you would like to attend, join the Sign Up Genius. We like to keep track of who plans to be in the building. Thank you!
    • If you would like to help/volunteer, please contact our room parents, Cathy Haugen at chaugen0724@gmail.com, Yvis Dimitrov, and Jaimie Sorenson.

Notes
  • Weekly Reminder
    • Return library books by Wednesday each week!
      • If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
    • Wear sneakers on Monday and Friday for P.E.
      • If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
    • Ice Cream will be available at lunch next week!
      • Ice cream is $2.
      • We would prefer that students plan to purchase ice cream on Fridays. Per LCPS, they are allowed to buy it any day of the week. We encourage them to buy ice cream only on Fridays so that they are less likely to make it a competition.
    • House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
      • Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit. 
    • Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
      • Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
      • Please make sure to stay at our table.
      • Our lunch is 12:10 - 12:40pm.
  • Parents as Educational Partners - PEP
    • Please consider joining the Pinebrook Elementary PEP Remind group to get reminders about PEP sessions, EL FACE sessions, and other EL programs offered by LCPS and Pinebrook! Join by going to rmd.at/pnbpep2526 or by texting @pnbpep2526 to 81010.
    • Come join the October PEP session at Pinebrook! Each session is created specifically to help EL families understand and get assistance with important information about your child as an LCPS and Pinebrook student.

      • Place: Library at Pinebrook Elementary
      • Topic: School Personnel and Family-Teacher Conferences
        • A simple Halal dinner will be provided. 
        • We will have in-person translation available for Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Mandarin, and Spanish languages.
        • We will have online translation for other languages.
        • Childcare will be provided.
Week Overview
Reading - We reviewed central idea and started talking about point of view. We will continue talking about point of view next week.
Writing - We published our writings about places we have been and started talking about proper nouns (library - Gum Spring Library).
Math - We focused on even/odd numbers this week. Next week, we will start working on place value with 2-digit and 3-digit numbers.
Science We started our animal life cycles unit by learning about the life cycle of a monarch butterfly. Next week, we will review this and learn about the life cycle of a white-tailed deer.
Handwriting  - We practiced writing manuscript - R, J, K, Q,V, Y.
