Reminders for Friday, October 24th

  • Remember your Chromebook and charger every day!

  • 2- and 3-digit place value test on 11/7 (math)
    • Your child should be able to write a given 2-digit number and a 3-digit number using number form (435), word form (four hundred thirty-five), expanded form (400 + 30 + 5), or base 10 form (⃞⃞⃞⃞|||●●●●●).
      • (⃞ is called a flat and is worth 100.
      • | is called a rod and it is worth 10.
      • ● is called a unit and is worth 1.
  • Revolutionaries test on 11/12 (social studies)
  • Order and Compare numbers on 11/15 (math)
    • Your child should be able to put a given set of 3 numbers in order from least (smallest) to greatest (biggest) AND greatest to least (following directions).

        • least to greatest = 139, 234, 546
        • greatest to least = 546, 234, 139
    • Your child should be able to compare a given set of 2 numbers and 3 numbers, using < (less than), greater than (>), or equals to (=).

  • Weekly Reminder
    • Return library books by Wednesday each week!
      • If you do not return your books, you will not be allowed to pick out new books.
    • Wear sneakers on Monday and Friday for P.E.
      • If you do not wear sneakers/tennis shoes/trainers or closed-toed shoes (NO boots), you will not be allowed to participate in P.E. This is a rule from the P.E. teachers.
    • Ice Cream will be available at lunch next week!
      • Ice cream is $2.
      • We would prefer that students plan to purchase ice cream on Fridays. Per LCPS, they are allowed to buy it any day of the week. We encourage them to buy ice cream only on Fridays so that they are less likely to make it a competition.
    • House Spirit Days are on Fridays.
      • Wear your house color on Fridays to show house spirit. 
    • Parents can join at lunchtime on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
      • Please be sure to bring your ID card to get in the front door.
      • Please make sure to stay at our table.
      • Our lunch is 12:10 - 12:40pm.

Week Overview
Reading - We continued learning about point of view this week. We w
Writing - We continued learning about proper nouns (library - Gum Spring Library) and will start talking about verbs (words that tell about actions - jump, run, yell). We will also start generating ideas about persuading others.
Math - We started working on place value with 2-digit and 3-digit numbers. We will continue this next week.
Science/Social StudiesWe reviewed the life cycle of a monarch butterfly and learned the life cycle of a white-tailed deer. Next week, we will start learning about revolutionary figures from the Revolutionary War period of the United States.
Handwriting  - We practiced writing manuscript.
